  3. To provide more liquidity in banking system and reducing lending rates, Reserve bank of India today reduced the SLR by 50 basis points to 21.50% in its 6th bi-monthly monetary policy. This is likely to pump in around Rs. 45,000 crore in the banking system.
    *SLR– Statutory Liquidity Ratio is the portion of deposits that banks are required to hold in the form of gold or government securities before providing credit to customer.
    *CRR– Cash Reserve Ratio is the portion of total deposits of customer which commercial banks have to hold as reserve either in cash or as deposits with the central bank
    *RBI also said that the inflation is likely to be around the target level of 6% by January 2016. It also expects the GDP growth of the country for 2015-16 to be around 6.5%.
  4. RBI doubled the amount of foreign exchange that an individual can remit in a year to $2,50,000 under the Liberalized Remittance Scheme which is launched in 2004. Earlier in 2013 RBI cut this limit to $75,000 then increased to $1,25,000 in June 2014.

  7. Punjab will issue Aadhaar linked e-ration card by this implementation Punjab will became the first state in the country to issue e-ration card. This scheme will help in giving subsidized food grains to genuine beneficiaries.

  1. Britain became the first country in the world to allow creation of babies with DNA from three people after MPs voted for the controversial procedure.
  2. UNCTAD- United nation Conference on Trade And Development shows that China has surpassed the US as the top destination for Foreign Direct Investment for the first time since 2003. Globally, foreign investment fell by 8% to a total of $1.26tn last year.
    *China has attracted 127.6 B$ investment in 2014 compared to 86 B$ by U.S.. US hold this position for 11 years.
    *China’s special administrative region Hong Kong also stood at the second spot ahead of the US after it attracted USD 111 billion in foreign investment.
  3. The UNCTAD data also showed that foreign investment in developing nations rose by four percent in 2014, whereas developed nations saw a decline of 14 percent, mostly due to the large fall in the US.
    *Last October, the IMF projected that China’s economy will be 20 percent larger than that of the US by 2019.

After 43 Years Of Journey Rape Victims Of Bangladesh Liberation War Get Status Of Freedom Fighters

Bangladeshian national parliament passed a historic proposal after 43 years of the country’s independence from Pakistan.

  1. Proposal says that the rape victims of the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971 will get their long overdue recognition as freedom fighters. Rape victims who are identified as Biranganas- War heroins and their children will get the state facilities as provided to other freedom fighters. Announced by Liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammed Haque.
  2. During the liberation war Pakistan military personnels and their cohorts raped between 2,00,000 and 4,00,000  women. These rapes caused thousands of preganancies, biths of war babies, abortions and even suicides.

Bangladesh Liberation War:

  1. The Bangladesh Liberation War was a revolutionary independence war that results in the establishment of republic of Bangladesh.The war pitted East Pakistan and West Pakistan, and lasted over duration of nine months.
  2. The war broke out on 26 March 1971, when the Pakistan army launched a military operation called Operation Searchlight against Bengali civilians, students and armed personnel, who were demanding that the Pakistan military junta accepts the results of the 1970 first democratic elections of Pakistan, which were won by eastern party.
  3. Bengali politicians and army officers announced the declaration of Bangladesh’s independence in response to Operation Searchlight. Bengali military, paramilitary and civilians formed the Mukti Bahini (“Liberation Army”), which engaged in guerrilla warfare against Pakistani forces. 
  4. India entered the war on 3 December 1971, after Pakistan launched pre-emptive air strikes on northern India. Overwhelmed by two war fronts, Pakistani defences soon collapsed. 
  5. On 16 December, the Allied Forces of Bangladesh and India defeated Pakistan in the east.
  6. The first night of war on Bengalis, which is documented in telegrams from the American Consulate in Dacca to the United States State Department, saw indiscriminate killings of students of Dacca University and other civilians. Numerous women were tortured, raped and killed during the war; the exact numbers are not known and are a subject of debate. Bangladeshi sources cite a figure of 200,000 women raped, giving birth to thousands of war babies. The Pakistan Army also kept numerous Bengali women as sex-slaves inside the Dacca Cantonment. Most of the girls were captured from Dacca University and private homes.

  4. Ready made garments exports rose by 15.98% to Rs. 73,714 crore in the first 9 month of the current fiscal from Rs. 63557 crore.
  5. Growth in 8 core sectors in India declined to 2.4% in December 2014, while it expanded by 4% in December 2013.
    #This slow down occurs due to negative growth in crude oil, natural gas , fertilizers and steel.
    #During April-December 2014 the eight core sectors grew by 4.4% as against 4.1% in same period last year.
    #The eight core sectors in Indian industries- coal, crude oil, fertilizers, refinery products, natural gas, steel cement and electricity– contributes 38% to overall industrial output.
  6. Reliance Industries Limited and State bank of India put a joint application to the RBI to set up a payment bank.
